Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering

Objective

In recent years, electronics the world over has made unprecedented growth in terms of new technologies, new ideas and principles. The rate of obsolescence of technologies also has been extremely high. Researchers, academicians, industries and the society at large have to work in unison to meet the challenges of the rapidly growing discipline. The research organizations and industries that work in this frontier area are in need of highly skilled and scientifically oriented manpower. This manpower can be available only with flexible, adaptive and progressive training programs and a cohesive interaction among the research organizations, academicians and industries. The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at GANADIPATHY TULSI’S JAIN ENGINEERING COLLEGE, VELLORE has been consistently working towards this goal.

About the Department

The department of Electronics and Communication was started in 2000 with 60 students intake and is presently located in “Mahaveer Block”.  The department offers UG and PG programs, after noting the ever growing need and the need for manpower training in the field of Electronics and Communication. Over the years, the department has built up laboratories in the areas of Electronic devices and circuits, Digital and Logic Design, Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, Networks, Communication including Microwave and Optical Communication, Computer Communication and VLSI. The M.Tech program in “Computer & Communication Engineering” was started in 2007.

The teaching program contains a proper blend of basic concepts and advances in technology. The faculty has succeeded in keeping a lively atmosphere among the students, with timely upgradations in the curriculum and innovative teaching techniques. The teaching is closely coupled with the EDUSAT by ANNA UNIVERSITY, Chennai . Department having well equipped Electronics, Computer and Internet Labs with the latest technology hardware and software (OptSim, Xilinx, Matlab 2010b). Department offers the CISCO-CCNA value added course.

The Professional Society of our department is IETE students forum had been started on 05th February 2010. Our department is also concentrating on conducting Seminars, Symposiums and Conference every year.

The ECE Department has 24 full-time faculty, 01 technical officer and 07 technical assistants who bring state-of-the-art research, development, and design experience into the classroom.

Achievements

Our Department students Ms.NIRMALA S and Ms.GAYATHIRI M secured 26th and 28th ranks in Anna University, Chennai.

Our Department students performed in many sports tournaments of University Levels and Project expos, National Conferences, Symposium, Workshops etc…

Around 80% of our students are  placed in various MNCs such as Accenture, Honeywell, Cognizant, Wipro, Oracle, TCS, Hexaware, HCL, American Trends, Syntel, Tech Mahindra……..

About the Course

Every facet of life today is impacted by electronics in one way or other. Either it is computers (Hardware) or communication (Multimedia) or a control, electronics is the link. The exciting world of electronics needs very good mathematical background and also an analytical mind. The opportunities in electronic field are countless; Application developers, system engineers, integrators and information technology. Infotainment enthralls the common man. Mobile telephony has shrunk the world. Hazardous situations can be handled safely with electronics with robots for disposing bombs, handling the wastes and precision operations. Subjects on digital systems, digital Signal processing, Image processing and neural networks, VHDL and VLSI, digital communication, embedded system, Microprocessors and micro controllers and microwaves are studied as part of the course.
